Step Back in Time...

The WPRM has 159 pieces of rolling stock in our collection for our visitors to enjoy. Among these are an example of the Mighty "Centennial", a Union Pacific DDA40X locomotive, the largest diesel locomotive ever built at over 98 feet long! Our Western Pacific 2001 ushered in an entirely new era of Diesel Locomotive technology as it was the first turbocharged locomotive in America. The Western Pacific 805-A is the "Belle" of our fleet, as it was built to pull the famous "California Zephyr". Speaking of the Zephyr, the museum has many cars and artifacts of "The most talked about train in America". We also have one of the largest collections of cabooses in the country, and we invite you to ride a few of them to experience for yourself what it's like to be a freight Conductor! Enjoy Railroading in its "native habitat! "

WPRM FRRS Logo

The Feather River Rail Society holds one of North America's largest collections of archives, photos and artifacts dedicated to a single railroad family. The collection is held by two departments of the FRRS.

The Historical/Archive Department manages paperwork, photographs and other archive material.

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum is responsible for working artifacts ranging from small items like lanterns and signals to full size rolling stock and locomotives.

Cabooses of the Western Pacific Railroad Museum

ATSF 999197

Built in March 1949 for the Santa Fe Railroad. This cabooses is a model Ce-1. and was originally ATSF 507. Purchased by Errol Spangler, the 999197 is on permanent loan to the Feather River Rail Society.

MP 13878

Built in September 1980 by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The 13878 was donated by the Union Pacific Railroad to the Feather River Rail Society. This caboose is part of the Caboose train that runs every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day and Santa Trains in December.More information HERE!

ONW 300

Built in October 1915 by the Norfolk & Western Ry and numbered as N&W 18121, a later re-number had her as N&W 518121. She was sold to the Oregon & Northwestern Railroad and later purchased by Errol Spangler and placed on permanent loan to the Feather River Rail Society by Mr. Spangler. Errol recently sold the caboose to FRRS Board member Wayne Monger. She remains at the Portola Railroad Museum. More information HERE!

SN 1642

Sacramento Northern 1642 ex WP 648 was acquired by the SN in April of 1964 and retired in May of 1976. It was purchased and sent to the Golden Gate Railroad Museum. Ownership was then given to the WPRM and she arrived at the museum in February 2006.More information HERE!

Built in May 1951 by the Southern Pacific Railroad. This caboose is a steel, Bay Window, model C-30-6. Caboose was donated by John Ford and Steve Rodgerson in 1991.More information HERE!

Built in February 1945 by Mt. Vernon Car Co. Caboose is steel center cupola, Model CA-3. Caboose is ex UP 3749. Donated by Union Pacific. Caboose is slated to be re-painted and returned to her original 3749 number and paint.More information HERE!

Built in September 1975 by International Car Co. of Kenton OH. Caboose is steel center cupola, Model CA-10. Caboose was acquired in a Museum equipment trade between the FRRS and the BAERA in May 2005. Caboose is slated to be cleaned up and placed into the Caboose train.More information HERE!

Built in November-1955 as WP 36102. A steel bay-window style caboose part of the first order of steel cabooses owned by the WP and built by the International Car Co. of Kenton, Ohio. Donated by Union Pacific to the FRRS. This caboose is part of the Caboose train that runs every weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day and Santa Trains in December.
