UP 24592, originally CRI&P (Rock Island) 17174, was built in December of 1967, and was part of a large group of equipment (engines, cars, and cabooses) bought by UP for the Rock Island, during the 10-year process of UP attempting to merge the RI into their system (1964-1974) which ultimately failed.
